Saudi Standards: Requiring suppliers to obtain “IECEE” and “IECEX” certification

The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization announced that manufacturers and suppliers are obligated, as of 11/1/2021 AD, to obtain the national recognition certificate for electrotechnical devices and components (IECEE), and the national recognition certificate for equipment and devices.

The Saudi specifications demanded that suppliers and manufacturers obtain the IECEE National Recognition Certificate for the following products: circuit breakers, mobile phone charger cables, electric shavers, and desktop computers (PC).

The Saudi specifications also required suppliers and manufacturers to obtain a national recognition certificate for equipment and devices intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres (IECEX) for the following products: junction box (electrical wire intersection) with cable connection points, control box with cable connection points, gas detectors and sensors Gas detection systems, electrical plugs and other connecting devices, electric pumps, and linear (fixed) lighting.

The “Saudi Standards” confirmed that obligating suppliers and manufacturers to obtain the national recognition certificate for electrotechnical devices and components “IECEE” and the national recognition certificate for equipment and devices intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres “IECEX” for these products, aims to control the market for high-risk products and protect it from inferior devices or Counterfeiting, in addition to ensuring the application of Saudi specifications to protect consumers from imported products that do not conform to standard specifications, verify product safety, reduce accidents that these products may cause, and facilitate the entry of goods through customs ports without repeated examination and testing.
